DETAILED  CONTENTS

SECTION-A  (12 hrs)

1.     Communication: Meaning, Types of Communication, Elements of Communication, Process of Communication, Channels of Communication, Barriers to Communication
2.     Grammar: Sentence Elements, Seven Basic Sentence Patterns of English, Formation and Use of Tenses, Voice, Narration
SECTION-B (10 hrs)

    Business Office Practices: Group Discussion;  Conducting a Meeting; Agenda; Minutes; Oral Presentation; Role of Body Language and Audio-visual aids; Telephone Etiquette.
                                                             Section C (12 hrs)

    Business Correspondence:
 i.    Elements of Business Writing,
ii. Business Letters: Components of a Business Letter; Letter Formats and Punctuation Used in Them: Complete Block Style, Block Style, Semi Block Style, Indented Style; Kinds of Business Letters – Inquiry, Order, Complaint, Complaint Redress, Credit Request, Acceptance and Denial of Credit Request, Quotations, Auction Notice, Tender Notice,
iii.  Report Writing: Definition, Qualities of a good report, Types of reports, Elements of a report,  
iv. Writing a short report
iv.    Job Application Letter and Resume Writing
v. Memorandum writing

SECTION-D   (11 hrs)

1.     Writing and Speaking Skills: Elements of Effective Writing,  Effective Speaking Skills.
2.     Reading and Listening Skills – Process of Reading, Reading Purposes, Reading Models, Reading Strategies, : Process of Listening, Effective Listening Skills.





SUBJECT : COMMUNICATION SKILLS (LAB)
List of Practical Activities / Semester-II
1.      Introduction to IPA Symbols, Word Accent, Sentence Stress, Contrastive Stress, Intonation
2.      Group discussion
3.      Oral Presentation using audio-visual aids
4.      Describing people, objects and situations
5.      Just a minute sessions
6.     Taking telephonic messages and passing them on to the intended receiver
Note : For lab. work, each section should be divided into two groups (with the maximum strength not exceeding 30 students) and each group should have 1 lab class of 2 lectures per week.
